A Long Jump Lands in All-American Territory
Tri-C’s Chanavier Robinson earns honors at NJCAA championships
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) long jumper Chanavier Robinson leaped her way to All-American recognition at the 2018 NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships held March 2-3 in Texas.
Robinson finished eighth in the event and earned a spot on the podium with a jump of 17 feet, 11.75 inches — her longest of the season. She entered the national meet as the regional champion.
The sophomore from Ravenna is studying to be a physical therapist assistant.
Four other Tri-C student-athletes also competed individually at the meet, including:
- Vanessa Lane (freshman/Tallmadge), who finished 11th in the high jump.
- Caroline Lapish (sophomore/Madison), who finished 11th in the 3,000-meter run.
- Sonnie Sauvinsky (sophomore/Rootstown), who finished 18th in the 1,000-meter run.
- Kamry Brown (freshman/Lima), who finished 22nd in the 400-meter dash.
The College’s distance medley relay team — comprised of Brown, Lapish, Sauvinsky and Shelbie Sporcich (sophomore/Ashtabula) — finished ninth at the championships.
As a team, Tri-C finished 28th at the national championships.
