About Freedom Project:
The Freedom Project is a unique program that consists of three components (Freedom Schools, Freedom Leadership Academy and Freedom Partnerships) linked to form a year-around, innovative concept designed to actively engage high school students, grades 9 to 12, in a holistic approach to achieving academic success.
About Freedom Schools
"Scholars" are introduced to the "Freedom Schools Way" during the summer component, Tri-C's Freedom Schools. Freedom School is a six-week, national initiative led by the Children's Defense Fund which has developed an integrated reading-based curriculum that is taught by specially trained college and university students. Freedom Schools also infuses the arts, inter-generational leadership, cultural awareness, civic engagement, and healthy living into the curriculum. Parental and family involvement is very essential to the program. Freedom School staff and parents seek to develop a team that will encourage scholars' success. At Freedom School, scholars are equipped with innovative approaches to problem solving that enhance their ability to be successful in their "home," school and life!
About Freedom Leadership Academy
Scholars exhibiting potential leadership skills and increasing academic ability in Freedom Schools are encouraged to participate in the Freedom Leadership Academy, which includes elements of both of its sister programs and builds additional leadership, communication and civic engagement abilities of participants. In addition to working side-by-side with college and university students, participants in upper level classes may be enrolled in Tri-C credit or certificate classes to begin their college career while in high school.
About Freedom Partnerships
The Freedom Partnerships component creates bonds with scholars' home schools and parents. This component also includes elements of the Freedom Schools approach to engage students and encourage development. Certified teachers collaborate with college students in the .summer with the academic remediation of students. They also serve as "academic success coaches" to students needing more intense academic support in reading, language arts and mathematics during the academic year.
The Cuyahoga Community College's Freedom Project is helping 'young adults have a successful passage to adulthood through literacy, social action, cultural awareness, and civic engagement.
