Second Semester Pathway Course

Second Semester Pathway Course

Welcome to the FYE Second Semester Pathway course at Tri-C!

We recognize that starting one’s college career on the right path is critical to success and completion. The Second Semester Pathway course builds on the activities in the first semester of FYE, which includes new student orientation, new student convocation, and the GEN 1070 course.

What is the difference between the First Year Success Seminar (Gen 1070) and the Second Semester Pathway course?
The First Year Success Seminar (GEN 1070) course, which is taken in the first semester at Tri-C, introduces students to the necessary skills, habits, and resources to be successful in college. The Second Semester Pathway course is taken in the student’s second semester after he/she successfully completes GEN 1070.  In the Second Semester Pathway course, students are connected to peers in their degree or discipline. Further, students gain clarity around their career path by participating in career exploration, receiving mentoring by a faculty member in their discipline, and completing a full academic plan.

What will students experience in the Second Semester Pathway course?
The FYE Second Semester Pathway course will help students continue their career pathway and complete their degree. The course will provide these benefits:

  1. Exposure to faculty and/or industry professionals in their career pathway
  2. Research and exploration of their chosen major and career
  3. Connection to peers in their academic pathway
  4. Completion of a full DegreeWorks academic plan
  5. Connection to services and resources to aid in personal and academic success
  6. Assistance of a Faculty Advocate who will serve as a mentor and coach
