Apr. 20, 2022 - Masking and Social Distancing Protocol Update
For the past two months, COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Cuyahoga County have remained comparatively low. The county’s community transmission level, as calculated by the CDC, is also low. Across the nation, many organizations — including institutions of higher education — have relaxed or removed mask mandates and other safety protocols.
Beginning May 15 (assuming that cases and transmission levels remain low):
• Masks will not be required in any Tri-C building, classroom or lab. Students, faculty, staff and visitors may choose to wear a mask as an added precaution or for personal and wellness reasons. We will respect and not question this choice. Face masks and/or shields will continue to be available at all Tri-C locations.
• All social distancing protocols will be discontinued. This includes classrooms, labs, meetings and events — regardless of the number of individuals in the space.
For your overall health and well-being, the College will continue other safety practices such as the use of air ionizers and increased ventilation. Previously installed Plexiglas shields will remain in place. Hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes will still be available at all locations. Cleaning and disinfecting protocols following confirmed cases will also continue.
Additionally, students, faculty, staff and visitors should continue to perform the Daily Health Assessment and not visit any Tri-C campus or facility if feeling ill or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
Though spread of the virus has decreased significantly, it does continue to pose risk. If you are eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, we strongly recommend you get it as soon as you are able.
Tri-C will continue to monitor case rates and the recommendations of federal, state and local health officials and will update masking and other safety protocols as appropriate. Thank you for your continued commitment to keeping the College community safe.

Mar. 11, 2022 - UPDATE: Campus Masking Policy Changes
Cuyahoga County has had a low COVID-19 transmission rate throughout this week, according to CDC statistics. Therefore, Tri-C is updating its masking policy as follows:
Beginning Monday, March 21, masks will only be required in:
- Classrooms and labs
- Areas in which it is difficult or impossible to maintain social distancing (these areas will be indicated with signs)
- Meetings or events during which three or more individuals will gather for an extended time
Masks will continue to be recommended, but not required, in all other indoor spaces. We will continue to follow our social distancing guidelines of 3 feet in the classroom and 6 feet elsewhere at the College. Spread of the virus has decreased, but continues. If you are eligible for a COVID vaccine or booster, we strongly recommend you do so as soon as you are able.
Please note: if Cuyahoga County’s transmission rate increases, we may resume masking in all indoor areas.
Thank you for your continued work in helping us contain the spread of COVID.

March 4, 2022 - Update on Tri-C Masking Policy
Due to an abundance of caution regarding transmission of COVID-19, Tri-C will continue to require the wearing of masks inside all College buildings until two weeks after the end of spring break and will re-evaluate then. This decision is based on a number of factors:
- Ohio Department of Health Chief Medical Offer Bruce Vanderhoff noted that COVID remains a very real presence, even though overall COVID case numbers are dropping.
- Members of the College community may travel and gather in large groups during spring break (March 14-18), increasing the risk of transmission and necessitating the extension of the mask mandate to cover the two weeks following spring break.
- Cuyahoga County remains a medium-transmission county.
While the latest CDC guidelines, stating that most Americans are safe without a mask indoors in low- and medium-risk counties was considered, the increased potential risk from spring break travel, plus the level of community spread still present in the area, warrants the extension of the mask protocol until at least the beginning of April.
At the end of the two-week window following spring break (April 4), Tri-C will consider case rates and the recommendations of federal, state and local health officials, and update our masking policy if appropriate.
Reminder: Please wear your mask properly while indoors, fitting closely to your face and covering your nose and mouth entirely. This maximizes the effectiveness of your mask in preventing the transmission of viruses. In addition, if you are eligible for a COVID vaccine or booster, we strongly recommend you get it as soon as you are able.

Face coverings are also required in on-campus clinics that provide public services. Unmasked individuals should be reported to the Campus President’s Office or Risk Management.
