A number of you have written to me recently expressing your desire to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and asking what the College is doing to accelerate vaccine distribution to the College community. I understand your concern and support the need for urgency.
Since vaccine distribution plans were announced in December, my colleagues at other community colleges across the state and I have been working diligently with the Ohio Association of Community Colleges to request that the state give community college faculty and staff priority consideration for vaccination. We recently sent a letter – signed by all Ohio community college presidents – to Gov. Mike DeWine and Chancellor Randy Gardner stressing the need for earlier vaccines for community colleges. Our advocacy continues.
If you desire the vaccine, you should register as soon as you are eligible. Some pharmacies may allow you to register in advance. If you are eligible and have difficulty getting an appointment, you can also call pharmacies and other vaccine providers, such as Care Alliance, on days when they are giving vaccinations and ask to be put on the cancellation/no-show list.
Information on vaccination sites in Cuyahoga County and across the state is available on the College’s coronavirus webpage. Those eligible for Phase 1B inoculations can also locate vaccine providers by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 HelpLink Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. HelpLink also provides resources and referrals for seniors and others with severe chronic diseases who wish to schedule vaccinations. —Alex Johnson

Feb. 9 - Dr. Johnson Encourages COVID-19 Vaccination
The process took only seconds, but that was enough time for Tri-C President Alex Johnson to protect his family, friends and community — as well as himself — from COVID-19.
Johnson recently received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Care Alliance Health Center in Cleveland. He became eligible Feb. 1.
The video, posted to the College’s YouTube channel, shares Johnson’s quick and painless experience at the clinic. The goal, he said, is to encourage others in the community to get vaccinated.
“I’ve completed the vaccination process, and I’m experiencing nothing at all in response to it with the exception of happiness that I’ve finally gotten it over with,” Johnson said in the video.
Care Alliance is administering vaccines by appointment only on Tuesdays and Thursdays at its clinic, located at 2916 Central Ave. in Cleveland. Call 216-535-9100 and select option 6 to schedule a time.
Visit vaccine.coronavirus.ohio.gov to find other vaccine locations or call the United Way’s 2-1-1 HelpLink for information on the vaccine, eligibility and inoculation sites.
Dr. Claude Jones, president and CEO of Care Alliance, joined Johnson in the video. The College and Care Alliance have partnered to bring COVID-19 testing to the community at Tri-C sites.
Testing is currently offered at the College three days a week. Visit tri-c.edu/covidtest for a full schedule.
