WESTERN CAMPUS
An individual received a positive COVID-19 test result Monday, April 26. The individual was last on-site Sunday, April 25, throughout the entire lower level of WHCS.

This cleaning/disinfecting strategy occurred today in light of the positive test result.
Students, faculty and staff who were in close contact with the above-mentioned individuals have been notified, advised to self-monitor using the College’s health assessment and/or self-quarantine for 14 days, and provided with testing information. The individuals who tested positive have been advised to follow all medical and public health guidance and College protocols prior to returning to campus.

April 6 - Summer and Fall 2021 Return to On-site Work Plans
The recent advances in vaccine distribution and the number of individuals vaccinated provide an encouraging light at the end of the coronavirus tunnel. Based on these and other indicators, we can begin preparing for a safe and gradual return to on-site work for all employees that will coincide with expanded on-ground classes for the summer and fall semesters. We extend special thanks to those who have continued to work on-site throughout the pandemic. You have provided critical in-person operational and administrative services and the quality face-to-face instruction and student support for which Tri-C is known.
Moving forward, the recruitment, retention and success of many of our students depends on their access to in-person classes, support services and engagement activities. Expanding the on-ground presence of all employees supports the long-term success of our students and the College.
Factors that informed these plans:
- President Biden anticipates there will be enough vaccines for every adult in America by the end of May. If vaccination efforts continue at the current pace, many people will be fully vaccinated by July.
- We understand that the risk of spread remains and is a concern for many of you. This is why all of our health and safety precautions — including daily health assessments, social distancing and wearing face coverings — will continue throughout the summer and fall. Additional measures, such as increasing space between work areas or installing partitions, will occur as needed.
- Many of you have been working remotely for more than a year. For some, returning to on-site work will be a welcome reprieve. For others, it will be an adjustment. Therefore, we have planned a gradual, phased-in return.
- We strongly believe that an in-person environment provides opportunities for deeper levels of engagement, socialization and collaboration — the foundation of our institutional culture.
- An increasing number of local colleges have announced plans for a return to “near normal operations” for fall. Among them are Stark State College, Cleveland State University, the University of Akron and Youngstown State University.
Overview
- From June 3 to July 30, all employees will work on-site Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours may be scheduled as needed.
- Beginning Aug. 2, we plan to have a stronger on-site presence. Between now and then, we will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic and evaluate on-site needs to determine the appropriate level of on-site staffing.
This decision will be made using input from across the College and what we’ve learned during the emergency remote work period. This information will also help us develop a flexible work policy. - Instructional Faculty — Summer
- Faculty with a fully online class schedule may continue to offer virtual office hours.
- Faculty with a hybrid or fully on-ground schedule must offer at least two office hours each day they teach on campus.
- Counseling and Library Faculty — Summer
- Counseling and library areas will be open to serve students on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Extended hours may be scheduled as needed.
- Requests for medical exemptions for on-site work will be reviewed by Tanja Foster in Human Resources in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission criteria.
- Vaccines are not mandated by the College, the CDC or the State of Ohio; however, employees are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as possible. You will be expected to return to on-site work even if you have not received, or choose not to get, the vaccine.
As always, the safety of our students, faculty and staff is our top priority. We will adjust our plans in response to any significant changes in the environment as we have done since the beginning of the pandemic.
We are grateful for your commitment to the College, and we know that we can count on this dedication to expand our on-ground presence and provide the education and support services upon which our students and the community depend.
We welcome your questions, concerns and input – which can be sent to today@tri-c.edu – as we continue to work through this together to achieve a smooth transition.
Visit www.tri-c.edu/ReturnToCampusGuidance for more detailed information. An FAQ document will be available shortly. - Alex Johnson
