Women's basketball looks to continue winning ways in new season
November 03, 2017

The women’s basketball team at Cuyahoga Community College enters the new season looking to build on last year’s success.
The Challengers open the 2017-2018 season Saturday in Chicago at the KKC Garland Dildy Tip-Off Classic Tournament. Their first home game at Tri-C’s Eastern Campus will be Thursday, Nov. 9.
Tri-C ended last season with a record of 21-8 after a loss in the NJCAA Region 12 semifinals. They finished third in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC).
In this year's OCCAC preseason poll, conference coaches picked the Challengers to again finish third. The team received one first-place vote in the poll, which was topped by Owens Community College.
The team lists its top returners as guard/forward Tre’Vion Beverly and guard Marisela Santos. Top newcomers include guard/forward Ryann Greenfield, forward Ariez Simms and guard Rachelle White.
“We will be a much deeper team and better at the guard position than last season,” head coach Derrick Williams said. “Our defense will lead us this year and we will be more organized in our approach to each game.”
