Janice Campbell finds recipe for success at Tri-C
May 23, 2017
Tri-C graduate Janice Campbell missed spring commencement to cook dinner.
Campbell represented the College in the finals of the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts Ultimate Culinary Clash, held May 18 — commencement day — on the other side of the nation in San Francisco.
She competed in the Clash against three other top culinary students from across North America. Campbell seared, sauteed and whisked her way to a runner-up finish with a meal featuring miso-roasted black cod.
“It was a fabulous experience,” the 21-year-old said. “What a way to end my time at Tri-C.”
Campbell enrolled at Tri-C’s Hospitality Management Center of Excellence in 2014 to pursue a career in culinary arts. She traces her love of cooking to growing up on a dairy farm outside of Warren, where the need to feed the hired hands pushed her into the kitchen.
She earned her Professional Baking and Professional Culinarian certificates last spring and graduated this month with an Associate of Applied Business in Culinary Arts.
Campbell currently works in the kitchen at The Country Club in Pepper Pike.
“Tri-C really opened doors for me,” Campbell said. “The instructors were awesome, classes were affordable and I learned a lot. I couldn’t have asked for more.”
