March 15, 2017

Cuyahoga Community College Eastern Campus president Dr. J. Michael Thomson was among the local leaders interviewed on Tuesday’s edition of The Sound of Ideas, which airs weekdays at 9 a.m. on 90.3 WCPN.
As part of a discussion on accelerating the degree process for underserved community college students, Thomson spoke about Tri-C-s Degree in Three program. The primary objective of the Degree in Three program is to provide motivated students with the structure and support necessary to complete their degree within three years. Support includes career counseling, tutoring, tuition waivers and other forms of financial assistance.
The program, which is offered at Tri-C’s Eastern and Western campuses, aims to graduate 30 percent of its students within the three-year window, well ahead of the average of five years.
Tuesday’s full program is available online at ideastream.org. The segment featuring Dr. Thomson, along with Stephanie Sutton of Lorain County Community College, begins at the 25:09 mark.
