Tri-C Faculty Member Leads Urban Archaeological Dig in Shaker Heights

July 24, 2015

logoCuyahoga Community College adjunct professor Beth Hoag discovered some tiles on the road while taking a walk roughly six years ago in Shaker Heights. This month, she, the Shaker Heights Historical Society and WVIZ-TV conducted a dig to determine where the tiles came from.

The clues led to the likely conclusion that a house dating back to sometime around 1850 used to the occupy the dig site. That's about the time the city's namesake, the Shakers, would have lived there.

Hoag teaches Cultural Anthropology and Introduction to Archaeology at the College.

Cleveland.com reported the story. Click here to read about the dig.
