Cuyahoga County Voters Say Yes to Tri-C's Issue 6

November 06, 2014

Cuyahoga County voters said yes to Cuyahoga Community College’s Issue 6. Unofficial final results showed 185,463 (57 percent) votes for and 140,637 (43 percent) against the levy.

The levy — a 1.2 mill renewal and 0.9 mill increase — will help keep Tri-C's tuition affordable, support job training and keep technology and equipment up to date.

Declining state funding made passage of the levy critical.

Even after trimming costs, failure to pass Issue 6 would have required Tri-C to cut an additional $40 million from its budget.

"The funding ensures access and that Tri-C remains affordable," Tri-C President Alex Johnson told The Plain Dealer.

Tri-C's tuition, $104.54 a credit hour, is the lowest in Northeast Ohio and second lowest in the state.
