Bobby McFerrin to Play Benefit Concert for Tri-C Scholarships
March 03, 2014
Ten-time Grammy winner Bobby McFerrin will take the stage at Cleveland’s PlayhouseSquare in March for a benefit concert funding music scholarships at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
The performance by McFerrin – best known for his 1988 hit Don’t Worry, Be Happy – will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Ohio Theatre. The show is presented by the College’s Tri-C Presents performing arts series.
McFerrin’s contemporary concerts are lively and often barefoot performances that explore his virtuoso a capella vocals and pair him with outstanding musicians from pop, jazz and classical worlds. The music industry rebel proudly carries a reputation for breaking musical rules and ignoring genre boundaries.
His latest album, spirityouall, is a bluesy, feel-good recording that represents another unexpected move in a unique musical journey that spans decades.
Tickets are $50, $35, $20 and $10 for students with valid I.D. Half the proceeds from every ticket sold will go toward the Tri-C Excellence in Music Fund, a new scholarship fund for music students.
To order tickets, call the PlayhouseSquare box office at 216-241-6000 or visit www.playhousesquare.org.
Local performers scheduled to join McFerrin onstage for the show include Jamey Haddad (percussion); Tina Bergmann (hammer dulcimer); Brian Thomas (double bass); and dancer Sarah Morrison.
