'Forgotten Survivor' of 1963 Birmingham Church Bombing Will Tell Her Story at Tri-C
February 17, 2014
In 1963, Sarah Collins Rudolph was one of the few to survive a bombing at 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala. She was 12 at the time, and her sister was one of the victims.
She began speaking about the tradgedy only a year ago, and she will tell her story at Cuyahoga Community College as part of the College's observation of Black History Month.
Cleveland.com has the story.
"Most people say I'm the forgotten victim, the sole survivor," Rudolph told cleveland.com. "I'm still suffering from the bombing. I lost my right eye. I still have glass in my left eye. The scars are still on my face. I see them when I look in the mirror or put on makeup. When I hear a loud sound, I jump.
"It's been over 50 years, and I always think about it."
