December 22, 2014

Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) held its third annual Fall Commencement at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Cleveland State University’s Wolstein Center, 2000 Prospect Ave. in Cleveland.
Graduating students petitioned the College for 1,453 associate degrees and certificates of completion. Tri-C received an average of 1,200 petitions for its two previous Fall Commencements.
“A trained and educated workforce is vital to the future of Northeast Ohio,” Tri-C President Alex Johnson said. “Building a better tomorrow begins with the academic success these hard-working students achieved at Cuyahoga Community College.”
Tri-C was asked to confer 474 Associate of Arts degrees, 253 Associate of Applied Business degrees, 389 Associate of Applied Science degrees, 103 Associate of Science or Technical Studies degrees and 234 certificates of completion.
The College also awarded an Honorary Associate of Arts degree in Humane Letters to Norma Lerner to recognize her contributions to Tri-C and the community. Lerner is a longtime civic leader and philanthropist.
The student Commencement speaker was Aswin Bikkani, who graduated summa cum laude with two associate degrees. The 17-year-old scholar from Westlake attended Tri-C through the Post-Secondary Enrollment Program and earned enough credits to graduate college before high school. He intends to study medicine in the future.
