Cybersecurity Defense Center
The Cybersecurity Defense Center at Tri-C is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide students with real-world, hands-on experience in the rapidly evolving field of cybersecurity. As a hub for education, innovation and community outreach, the center is equipped with industry-grade hardware and software, simulating real-world IT environments where students can engage in active defense, penetration testing and security analysis.
The center serves multiple functions:
- Hands-On Learning Lab: Students enrolled in the cybersecurity and IT programs can use the center to apply classroom concepts in a controlled, high-tech environment and engage in cyber competitions, such as hack-a-thons and Capture the Flag (CTF) tournaments.
- Community Training Hub: Beyond serving students, the center is a resource for the wider community. It offers cybersecurity awareness workshops for local businesses, educators and residents, helping to elevate the region's digital literacy and cyber conscientiousness.
- Workshops and Professional Development: The center offers ongoing professional development opportunities through hands-on workshops and guest speaker series. These sessions are open to students, faculty and community members.
- Community Meeting Space: The center provides a meeting space for cybersecurity organizations, such as the Ohio Cyber Range Institute (OCRI).
Why It Matters
In today's increasingly digital world, cyber threats are growing in frequency and sophistication — especially with the rise of remote work. Attacks like ransomware, data breaches, identity theft and phishing can impact businesses of all sizes and cause serious harm to individuals.
Stolen data is often used in crimes such as credit card fraud, identity theft and intellectual property violations. That's why cybersecurity training and awareness are essential. They help individuals and organizations recognize threats, reduce risks and respond effectively to incidents.
The Cybersecurity Defense Center provides hands-on training that prepares students for careers in the field while also educating the broader community. By fostering practical skills and cyber awareness, the center strengthens both workforce readiness and digital resilience across the region.
