Program's Vision, Mission and Goal:
Vision:
The vision of our program is to satisfy the need for Surgical Technologists within our local and regional communities with dedicated, competent employees and to instill in our graduates a commitment to lifelong learning and patient-centered care with ethical values.
Mission:
The mission of our program is to provide didactic and clinical instruction that graduates students who are competent entry-level Surgical Technologists, prepared to pass the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Examination and fulfill the need for Surgical Technologists for our local and regional clinical affiliates.
Goal (Minimum Expectations Statement):
The goal of our program is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) domains to enter the profession.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon program completion, the graduate will be able to:
- Apply principles of aseptic technique in the OR setting according to Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) guidelines. (P, C)
- Demonstrate competence in skills required during the perioperative event to ensure the client and staff’s safety and optimal surgical outcome are achieved. (P)
- Demonstrate professional conduct according to the AST Code of Ethics and departmental policies. (A)
- Apply knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Medical Terminology within the surgical environment. (C)
- Effectively communicate with the OR team members during the perioperative event according to the policies and procedures and surgeons’ preferences. (A)
- Prepare graduates for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Examination. (C)
