Program's Vision, Mission and Goal:

Vision:
The vision of our program is to satisfy the need for Surgical Technologists within our local and regional communities with dedicated, competent employees and to instill in our graduates a commitment to lifelong learning and patient-centered care with ethical values.

Mission:
The mission of our program is to provide didactic and clinical instruction that graduates students who are competent entry-level Surgical Technologists, prepared to pass the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Examination and fulfill the need for Surgical Technologists for our local and regional clinical affiliates.

Goal (Minimum Expectations Statement):
The goal of our program is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) domains to enter the profession.

Program Learning Outcomes:

Upon program completion, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Apply principles of aseptic technique in the OR setting according to Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) guidelines. (P, C)
  2. Demonstrate competence in skills required during the perioperative event to ensure the client and staff’s safety and optimal surgical outcome are achieved. (P)
  3. Demonstrate professional conduct according to the AST Code of Ethics and departmental policies. (A)
  4. Apply knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Pharmacology and Medical Terminology within the surgical environment. (C)
  5. Effectively communicate with the OR team members during the perioperative event according to the policies and procedures and surgeons’ preferences. (A)
  6. Prepare graduates for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Examination. (C)

  • (C) Cognitive – Learning concerned with thinking and intellect.
  • (A) Affective – Learning concerned with feeling and emotion.
  • (P) Psychomotor – Learning concerned with skilled behavior.
