Captioning and Court Reporting Student Wins National Scholarship

Louis Markowitz Tri-C student Louis Markowitz has been awarded the 2025 National Court Reporters Foundation (NCRF) Stenograph Milton H. Wright Memorial Scholarship.

This prestigious, merit-based scholarship includes a $5,000 tuition award and access to a student writer and software—an incredible support for Louis, who balances full-time work and full-time school.

Louis was selected from a record pool of 26 applicants, making it to the top six finalists before being chosen as the winner. Louis submitted a thoughtful essay on how technological advancements support stenographic court reporters and Communication Access Real-Time Translation (CART) captioners in ensuring transcript accuracy. Louis consistently demonstrates academic excellence, professionalism, and dedication.

Captioning and Court Reporting Instructors Speak at the 2025 Unity Summit

Held in Orlando, Florida, from May 1–4, the Unity Summit – STAR Conference marked a groundbreaking event. This was the first joint conference hosted by two major industry organizations - AAERT and STAR, coming together to promote collaboration and unity across the fields of steno, voice, and digital reporting, as well as transcription.

Tri-C’s Captioning and Court Reporting program was honored to have two of our faculty members presenting at the Unity Summit – STAR Conference.

Session: Advocating for the Professional in the Room
Faculty member, Kolleen Barnes served as a panelist in this impactful presentation.  This session highlighted the essential, irreplaceable role of the court reporter in the courtroom and deposition room and the role educators play in advancing the industry and ensuring the next generation of reporters is prepared to meet the demands of new technology and a changing landscape.

Session: Perfection in Print: Mastering the Art of Pristine Transcripts
Faculty member, Kelly Moranz co-presented with Aimee Robinson in this detailed session focused on the importance of accuracy in transcript preparation. In the world of transcript preparation, precision is paramount. This session took deep dive into the essential strategies for creating transcripts that meet the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism. Practical tips and tricks to ensure their work is as close to perfect as possible, from meticulous proofreading techniques to leveraging tools and technology for quality assurance were shared.  Participants left the session empowered to elevate their craft and deliver transcripts that impress every time.
