First Jennings Scholars Program

CCP students

You're Not Doing College Alone

The First Jennings Scholars Program is here to help first-generation College Credit Plus (CCP) students succeed at Tri-C.

Who Can Participate?

The First Jennings Scholars Program is for first-generation students enrolled in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program.

A first-generation student is someone whose parents or guardians did not earn a four-year college degree.

What You'll Get

As a First Jennings Scholar, you'll have access to:

  • One-on-one support from your student liaison
  • Help planning your classes
  • Connections to tutoring and academic resources
  • Guidance when challenges come up
  • Career and college planning
  • Opportunities to meet other first-generation CCP students

What Is a Student Liaison?

Think of your First Jennings Scholars student liaison as your college connection.

They can help you:

  • Answer questions about Tri-C
  • Connect with campus resources
  • Stay on track during the semester
  • Prepare for registration
  • Find tutoring or counseling services
  • Celebrate your successes

If you aren't sure where to go, start with your student liaison!

Before Classes Begin

You'll meet with your student liaison to:

  • Talk about your goals
  • Review your class schedule
  • Get ready for your first semester
  • Ask any questions you have

During Your First Semester

Your student liaison will check in with you throughout the semester to see how things are going.

You'll hear from them around important times such as:

  • The first week of classes
  • Midterms
  • Registration
  • Finals

These check-ins are meant to support you — not to evaluate you.

Stay Connected

To make sure you don't miss important information:

  • Check your Tri-C email regularly
  • Respond to messages from your student liaison
  • Attend scheduled meetings when possible
  • Let us know if your contact information changes

College can come with unexpected challenges. If you're having trouble with classes, balancing responsibilities or finding the right resources, don't wait to ask for help.

Your student liaison can connect you with:

  • Tutoring
  • Counseling
  • Academic advising
  • Career Marketplace
  • Transfer resources
  • Student activities

The sooner you reach out, the more we can help.

Do I have to pay to participate?
No. The First Jennings Scholars Program is free.

How often will someone contact me?
You'll hear from your student liaison throughout the semester, especially during important academic milestones.

What if I'm struggling in a class?
Reach out to your student liaison as soon as possible. They can connect you with tutoring and other campus resources.

Can I contact my student liaison first?
Absolutely! You don't have to wait for us to reach out.

What if I'm not sure I need this kind of support?
That's okay! Many students aren't sure at first. The program is here whenever you need it — whether that's help with your first schedule or support halfway through the semester.

I don't live in Cuyahoga County. Can I still receive support as a CCP student?
Yes! If you're enrolled in CCP through Tri-C, we're here to support you no matter where you live. Whether you're taking classes online, at a Tri-C location or through your high school, contact us to explore the support options that best fit your needs.

Hear From CCP Students

"The reason I signed up for College Credit Plus was to advance my skills and challenge myself to become a better student. Thank you for the opportunity to explore the campus and learn how to navigate it better."

— Samuel N., 11th Grade

"CCP has benefited me by allowing me to experience college classes early. I learned so much by coming to campus … since I had previously taken classes online."

— Scott, 12th Grade

"As a CCP student, I loved being able to take classes related to my intended major. I took an introductory theater course, History of Theatre and Drama, and American Sign Language. …

During my preview days at my four-year college, the professors were impressed that I had already taken courses connected to my major. I believe those experiences helped me secure a job within the department. I feel like I'm entering college ahead of the game."

— Jacora, Class of 2026
