Peace Officer Basic Training Academy (POBT)
Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) Certified

The Police Academy, also known as The Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) Academy, is a rigorous program that is designed for individuals who have made the career decision to be police officers in the State of Ohio.  In addition to the State mandated POBT curriculum, students participate in specialized training to enhance their background and provide greater career opportunities.  Students who successfully complete the Peace Officer Basic Training Academy will have earned 24 credit hours.

Tri-C POBT Academies begin each Spring and Fall.  The deadline for application submission is typically one month prior to the start of the Academy.Graduate Ryan Fewell BAS 10-038 Stops & Approaches training  Beginning August 2014, we will be holding an additional full-time, day Academy at the NEW Public Safety Center of Excellence on the Western Campus in Parma.  The part-time, evening / Saturday Academy will still be held at the ATTC Building on the Metro Campus.

CALL OR EMAIL the Peace Officer Basic Training Academy office for specific details and to request Academy start dates, tuition and fee information, as well as COMPLETE application packets.

Students seeking enrollment in Cuyahoga Community College’s POBT must meet all entry requirements according to the due dates specified in the Application Packet, including:

  • Passing the Entry Physical Fitness Assessment Exam
  • Must apply for and be accepted as a student at Cuyahoga Community College
  • Successfully passing a National WebCheck for Law Enforcement (BCI&I/FBI)
  • Receiving a physical from their physician
  • Must be a high school graduate or have successfully completed the G.E.D. program when the Academy starts 
  • Must have a valid Ohio driver’s license and currently have full driving privileges in the State of Ohio
  • Must not have a criminal background
  • Should be at least 20 years old at the time of acceptance to The Academy

Upcoming Academies:
Starting in Fall 2014, we will be offering TWO Basic Police Academies- APPLICATIONS ARE NOW AVAILABLE

Full-Time Day (Monday through Friday, 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.) - Starts August 25, 2014 and ends in December at the NEW Public Safety Center of Excellence on the Western Campus in Parma

Part-Time Evenings/Saturday (Monday through Thursday, 6:00p.m.-10:00p.m. and Saturdays 8:00a.m.-5:00p.m.) - Starts September 8, 2014 and ends in May at the
Metro Campus, ATTC Building

Graduation:
BAS 13-092 will be taking their State Certification Examination at the end of April. Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2014 at 6:00p.m. in the Metro Campus Theater.

Congratulations to BAS 11-082!
This class had the highest class average test score on the State Certification Examination in the 46 year history of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission.
