Bioscience Workforce Training & Assessment Center (BWTAC) is focused on providing technical skills and specific Bioscience industry skills to individuals interested in a career in production, equipment maintenance and quality assurance of medical device manufacturing or pharmaceutical drug production. For the purpose of this program, the Bioscience Industry is defined as “the design, manufacturing and distribution of medical devices and pharmaceutical drugs.” The healthcare sector is excluded from this industry definition and scope of the Training Center.

The training is certificate based.

The focus of the BWTAC is to provide jobs skills and industry knowledge training in two broad areas:

• Medical Device Manufacturing
• Pharmaceutical Drug Manufacturing

 
Background:
In late 2006 and early 2007 Cuyahoga Community College conducted a survey to identify the need for Bioscience Workforce Training in Northeast Ohio. In early 2007 BioOhio conducted a similar statewide survey whose results mirrored that of findings of Cuyahoga Community College. In December of 2007, Cuyahoga Community College was awarded a grant from the Ohio Board of Regents to obtain equipment for the creation of the Bioscience Workforce Training & Assessment Center and opened in the Summer of 2008. The Center was established in cooperation with the Bioscience Industry and the State of Ohio.

The Bioscience Workforce Training & Assessment Center is located at the Unified Technologies Center (UTC) located at 2415 Woodland Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio.
