Government Ethics: Contradiction in Terms?
- Many people hear the term "government ethics" and they think it's a joke, especially in light of the current political climate. However, do government ethics rules serve a useful purpose? Do they encourage government officials to "do the right thing" and give us confidence that they are acting in the public interest? On the other hand, do such laws need to be strengthened or otherwise changed? In this course, we will examine, discuss, and debate the effectiveness of government ethics laws and rules, including those affecting conflicts of interest, lobbying, financial disclosure and campaign finance, and the enforcement of these laws.
