The Division of Nursing consists of two nursing programs, the
Associate of Applied Science Degree in Registered Nursing and the
Certificate in Practical Nursing.
The programs are highly individualized and blend classroom instruction with laboratory work and a professional, clinical field experience that offer students excellent hands on experience in real world health care settings. As a profession, nurses have an important, influential role in health care delivery. As a nurse, you will derive satisfaction from knowing that you are able to work and support patients and their loved one through the lifespan.
As you plan to enroll, recognize that in order for you to succeed, you will have to dedicate time and energy studying and fulfilling the requirements of the program. Nursing, as a program of study, is demanding and rigorous, but in the end the reward is worth the effort.

The Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program
The ADN Program is a two year Nursing program that admits students twice a year in a day or evening/weekend program. In consideration of the various stages of students’ education levels and experiences, there are three entry tracks into the ADN program. Information about admission into each track can be found by clicking a track below.
Accelerated Track–for students that have a bachelor or master’s degree in another discipline.
LPN to ADN (Access) Track–for Licensed Practical Nurses who have a minimum of one year clinical experience.
Generic Track–for the student that is not a LPN with one year of clinical experience nor has a bachelor or master’s degree.
Practical Nursing Certificate of Proficiency Program
The Practical Nursing Program is a one year certificate program that admits student annually starting fall semester and has a day and evening components. Prerequisite criteria must be met prior to admission. Students with a current STNA Certification can receive credit by articulation or by pass credit for the PNUR 1300 course. Prior to requesting admission into a Nursing Program the following must be done:
- Complete the required pre-requisite course work for the desired program and/or track.
- For core prerequisite courses obtain at least a 2.0 grade in each and have a recorded overall GPA of 2.50 or higher for ADN tracks or an overall GPA of 2.00 GPA for the Practical Nursing Program. Numerical rounding is not done with GPAs
- A high school diploma transcript, GED, or higher degree transcript must be on file in the Tri-C Enrollment Center.

Request admission into either the Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program or the Practical Nursing Program (PN) by e-mailing a request for review to nursing@tri-c.edu. For the ADN Program, include the desired track (Accelerated Track, LPN to ADN (Access) Track, or Generic Track; select only one track.

The Division of Nursing will review the student’s admission and academic record. Following the Division’s review, the prospective applicant will receive an e-mailed response to their Tri-C email address. The response will either give the student information about taking the nursing Admission and Assessment (A2) Test or decline the student’s admission request.

A nursing admission application is only e-mailed when there is a positive academic review, the nursing entrance test has been passed, and the background check has been approved.

Reminder: As part of the admission process ALL STUDENTS APPLYING FOR NURSING AND HEALTH CAREER PROGRAMS MUST COMPLETE A BACKGROUND CHECK THAT INCLUDES FINGER PRINTING AND COURT SEARCH (BCI).
Background Check Information.
Students with a citation will have their record reviewed on an individual basis and this information will be kept confidential. In some instances a citation may preclude a student from being accepted into a health career program. Also, drug screening may be required for some training sites.
