Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program at Tri-C 

Area of Study: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
       Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography 
       Associate of Applied Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography 
       with a Concentration in General Sonography (pending approval)  

If you are not already an active Tri-C student, you must first apply to the college. Due to Program expansion, completed applications are being accepted for all of the specialties the (General, Cardaic and Vascular Technology classes) that begins Fall 2014. Applicants that completed all of the admission requirements by the end of the Fall 2013 semester should have received their acceptance letter by March 7, 2014.

The Associate of Applied Science degree prepares the student for an entry-level position as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer for employment in hospitals and other health care agencies. Cuyahoga Community College offers two Associate degrees in sonography depending on The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer produces, evaluates, and correlates ultrasound images and related data. Sonographers provide a summary of their technical findings to the qualified interpreting physician to aid in rendering a medical decision.

The curriculum consists of on-campus didactic and lab instruction, as well as off-campus clinical applications at our affiliated health care institutions.

The cohort-style program offers specialty training in the following options: abdominal sonography, echocardiography, obstetrical/gynecological sonography and vascular technology.  Clinical scanning experience hours and on-campus lectures and labs are scheduled during the day, however, a few required lecture courses are offered in the evening.

The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) . Information on program accreditation can be found at  The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) is the committee for accreditation that establishes the accreditation standards and guidelines in conjunction with CAAHEP.
