Dietetic Technology Program (DTP) Students get hands on experience in class and practicum/supervised practice. Student’s practicum experiences include the major areas of dietetics practice:
Medical Nutrition Therapy, with the RD, in hospitals and nursing homes; Geriatric Nutrition, in skilled nursing and assisted living, with the RD and DTR; in Community Nutrition, with Public Health RD, DTR, and Public Health Professionals at Senior Centers, Fitness Centers, OSU Extension, Diabetes Association of Greater Cleveland and Food Service Management, gaining skills in operations and food delivery.
DTP Students perform nutrition education and training for student groups, employees, practicum sites and others as needed, gaining expertise in teaching best practices in nutrition.
Recent sites of presentations include the Children’s Museum for Fruits and Veggies: More Matters events, Dave’s Supermarket for National Nutrition Month, and Diabetes Dining for members of the Tri-C Community Health and Wellness Center.
Students are also encouraged to gain and maintain professional credentials by joining the American Dietetic Association, as students. Students also attend the Cleveland Dietetic Association meetings.
