Program Sequence

This program is designed for registered nurses at the associate, bachelor, or graduate degree level who wish to pursue careers in legal nurse consulting. The program educates students to serve as legal nurse consulting professionals and work in industries that require employees with specialized medical and legal knowledge.

Students receive a general legal education with coursework in advanced medicolegal research, medical records review and analysis, and marketing and management for the legal nurse consultant. Graduates prepare for careers in industries that interface with both medical and legal systems.

Typical employers include personal injury law firms, insurance companies, local, state, and federal government, hospitals, consulting firms, and corporations. Many nurse consultants are self-employed and contract with law firms or other entities to apply medical/legal analysis to specific factual situations. Paralegals cannot accept legal cases, set legal fees, give legal advice, or represent a client in court.

This is an American Bar Association approved program.

LNC STUDENTS:
The PL-2330/Advanced Medicolegal Research and PL-2430/Medical Records Review and Analysis will be offered this spring semester 2012 in an online format. Each class will be eight weeks long and will run back-to-back. Two classes can be completed in one semester.

Registration is taking place now for these two important LNC classes.
LNC students who have completed PL-1300/Civil Procedure and PL-1400/Basic Legal Research and Writing may take these advanced classes.

ATTENTION RN's

Find out how to use your medical background in new ways, and earn three (3) CEUs.

In the summer Cuyahoga Community College will offer the PL-2030 class, Introduction to Legal Nurse Consulting, in an on-line format. This class is an overview and exploration of the functions of a legal nurse.

By taking this introduction class, nurses will receive 3 CEUs. Class is offered summer semester.
