Questions about the Automotive Program

Where is the program located?

Cuyahoga Community College's Advanced Automotive Technology Center is located on the College's Western Campus in Parma, Ohio.  This 26,500 square foot building houses classrooms and laboratories that are equipped with the latest automotive service equipment.  A 12-bay service area, nine classrooms, more than 60 late model automobiles, and ultra-modern diagnostic equipment ensures students "hands-on" training in a modern facility.  General academic courses may be taken at any of the three CCC campuses.

Will I be required to have tools?

No.  All tools are supplied by CCC to complete required lab and shop assignments.  It should be noted, however, that students in the GM ASEP program must have the required set of hand tools to complete a technical field experience at a GM dealership.  If the student already has the required tools, the student will not have to purchase another set.  Students who do not have tools may be interested in the quotes from various tool vendors who submit prices on tool sets at an educational discount.  The College does not endorse any particular tool manufacturer and does not sell tools.

Will I receive a degree?

Yes.  Students who successfully complete the Automotive Technology or GM ASEP degree program will receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology.

Will I have the opportunity to work while I am in the program?

Yes.  The technical field experience at a participating GM dealership or automotive related business is an integral component of the respective GM ASEP or Automotive Technology Degree Programs.  The work experience provides the student with the opportunity to gain on-car experience in a supervised work situation while earning income.

Are course credits transferable?

Course credits are transferable to most schools offering a four-year baccalaureate degree in Automotive Technology.  Contact a CCC academic counselor for transfer options by calling 1-(800)-954-Tri-C (8742) and ask for the Counseling Office on the campus of your choice.

How do CCC costs compare with other schools?

The automobiles, diagnostic equipment, tools, facilities and faculty at CCC are second to none.  For Cuyahoga County residents, tuition and program costs at CCC are substantially less than similar programs at private schools and colleges.  Cuyahoga County provides tax dollars toward the funding of the College which helps to keep tuition costs among the lowest in Ohio!

Will I be eligible for financial assistance?

Financial assistance opportunities are available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans and part-time employment.  Eligibility and approval of all forms of financial assistance should be determined at least four weeks prior to registration.  Students are urged to apply for financial aid well in advance of the beginning of classes.  Applications are available at each campus Student Financial Assistance Office or from high school counselors.

Is it possible to visit CCC to find out more about the program?

Tri-C Admissions and Records Department offers personalized activities that can be arranged to connect you with academic program faculty and staff.  Your personalized visit can be scheduled throughout the academic year at your convenience.  Activities will vary depending on your interest and needs.  Your personalized visit may include:

  • Pre-Admission counseling
  • Individual tour
  • Meeting with Program Coordinator/Manager of your interest area
  • Shadowing of a class or lab
  • Financial Aid appointment
  • Lunch with a College representative
