Tri-C Baseball Players Catch Conference Awards
Matt Starcovic and Anthony Savarino honored after leading team to four-game sweep
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) baseball players Matt Starcovic and Anthony Savarino earned Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week honors from the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference for their performance March 27-April 2.
Both played key roles in leading Tri-C to a four-game sweep of Monroe Community College.
Starcovic slugged two home runs, scored five runs and added five RBI during the series, with seven hits in 13 at-bats. The sophomore outfielder from North Olmsted ranks among the team and conference leaders in most batting categories.
Savarino tossed a complete-game shutout in a 2-0 victory over Monroe, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out five. The victory raised his record to 4-0 on the season with a 1.21 ERA. The sophomore pitcher is from Olmsted Township.
Starcovic and Savarino are working toward Associate of Arts degrees from the College.
The Challengers are now 15-8 on the season. The team plays its home games at Ron Mottl Field at Tri-C’s Western Campus in Parma, where the team is 38-1 over the past two seasons.
