Three individuals and one relay team to represent the College at finals
The Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) women’s track team qualified three individual student-athletes and one relay team to compete in this week’s NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Kansas.
Representing Tri-C will be:
• Amber Ruiz-Bueno: 800-meter run
The sophomore from Willowick holds the school record in the 800-meter run and clocked the nation’s fourth-fastest time in the event this season. Ruiz-Bueno is a two-time track All-American for Tri-C.
• Rashida Harris: Shot put, discus and hammer throw
The sophomore from Euclid holds the school record in the shot put and is ranked second nationally entering the championships. Harris placed third in the shot put at last year’s outdoor championships to earn All-American honors.
• Caroline Lapish: 5,000-meter run
The freshman from Madison enters nationals as the Region XII champion in the 5,000-meter run. She earned All-American honors running that distance in the fall at the NJCAA cross country finals.
• Relay team: 4x800-meter relay
Lapish, Sonnie Sauvinsky (Rootstown), Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula) and Naleta Andrews (Shaker Heights) will pass the baton. Tri-C won the regional championship in the event.
The National Junior College Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place Thursday through Saturday (May 18-20) at Gowans Stadium in Hutchinson, Kansas.
