Donation supports College efforts to help families overcome barriers
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) will use a grant from the Westfield Insurance Foundation to enhance its Women in Transition program and help families achieve greater stability.
The grant will help create program pathways linking Women in Transition participants and their children with the College’s Saturday Family Academy. The academy emphasizes families working together to reach academic, employment and life goals.
The grant reflects Westfield’s focus on family stability, with the Foundation providing support to organizations that offer comprehensive approaches to help families overcome challenges.
“Westfield recognizes that vulnerable families face multiple issues and we want to help nonprofits in their approaches to reducing more than one barrier to success,” said Jani Groza, Westfield Insurance Foundation executive director and Westfield Insurance community investment leader. “When we look at the nonprofit agencies we support, we see unique insights into the demographic they serve, whether it’s parents or children.”
Tri-C’s Women in Transition program uses education and training to empower women at a life crossroads. Participants build confidence and self-esteem through classes on personal development, academic program options, career exploration and financial and computer literacy.
The Women in Transition program began in 1978 and has contributed to thousands of personal success stories. It typically serves about 250 women a year.
The Westfield grant was awarded to the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation.
