HIGHLAND HILLS – Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) Eastern Campus, 4250 Richmond Road in Highland Hills, will have a full schedule of international events and cultural activities, including speakers, discussions and displays, during International Education Week, November 16-20. “The purpose of International Education Week is to promote understanding of various cultures all around the world,” said Dr. Joyce Banjac, Dean of Academic Affairs.

On Tuesday, November 17, at 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Lobby, Alina Fernandez, the daughter of Fidel Castro, will give an intimate account of growing up in Cuba. She will tell the story of her life in Cuba and offer her insight on one of the Cuban elite. Fernandez will also give an up close view of her father, the leader of Cuba, the only communist country in the Western Hemisphere. Castro has been the focus of international controversy. This event is free and open to the public.  Parking is available in designated visitor lots around campus for $1 for a two-hour time block, or a hangtag permit can be purchased for 75 cents.

International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education.  The end-goal is to prepare Americans for life in a global, interdependent, environment. As part of this initiative, Tri-C aims to advance students to become globally aware and culturally sensitive.
