HUNTING VALLEY – Last Saturday evening (June 6), Hunting Valley residents Barbara and Mal Mixon welcomed over 270 guests to their home for Investing in Healthy Futures. The fundraiser for the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation raised more than $214,000 for scholarships for Nursing and Health Careers students at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
“These are extremely difficult times for many in the Cleveland area,” said Mal Mixon, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Invacare Corporation, the global leader in the manufacture and distribution of innovative home and long-term care medical products that promote recovery and active lifestyles. “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to assist Tri-C students studying in the nursing and health careers areas.”
Those attending the evening’s festivities were treated to wonderful food and music, along with a festive theme highlighting the multitude of health careers program offerings at Cuyahoga Community College.
“We are so appreciative to Mal and Barbara Mixon for hosting this wonderful event,” said Jerry Kelsheimer, Tri-C Foundation Board Chairperson. “Over the past eight years, our spring event has now raised a total of more than one million dollars for student scholarships. We cannot say ‘thank you’ enough to all our supporters.”
Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton, President of Cuyahoga Community College, added that “many of our students would be unable to access or continue their education without some financial assistance. The scholarships offered through the Tri-C Foundation have made it possible for countless students to pursue a better life and career. We truly appreciate all the efforts of the Tri-C Foundation Board of Directors.”
