HIGHLAND HILLS ––– October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
To mark the occasion, Cuyahoga Community College will hold its 11th annual National Disability Awareness Day on the Eastern Campus, 4250 Richmond Road in Highland Hills.
This year’s keynote speaker is Johnnie Tuitel, an expert in disability issues. Tuitel was born with cerebral palsy and has used a wheelchair his entire life. He was the first disabled student legally mainstreamed in Michigan. And in 1995, he founded Alternatives in Motion, a non-profit organization that buys wheelchairs for people who can’t afford them.
Tuitel’s speech is free and open to the public, though reservations are strongly suggested. It will take place in the Eastern Campus Performing Arts Center Lobby on Thursday, October 16, at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 and refreshments will be available.
Also, various community organizations will provide information on services for people with disabilities.
Two CEUs are available for social workers, counselors and nurses. Remission of fees is available for employees wishing to obtain CEUs. Also, one personal Wellness Credit is available for employees.
