PARMA – Bonita (Bonnie) August, a vascular sonography student at Cuyahoga Community College, was chosen by the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) as its 2008 Student Representative. Bonnie, who attends Tri-C’s Western Campus and is scheduled to graduate in May 2009, is the first appointed student representative from Ohio.
Bonnie, a Brecksville native, will be attending both the June 4 SVU Board of Directors meeting in San Diego and the December meeting in Northern Kentucky. As the student representative on the SVU Board of Directors, Bonnie will learn the inner workings of the Board, and will offer input and her unique student perspective during Board meeting discussions.
In addition, she will serve on the SVU Membership Committee and be profiled in a future issue of the monthly e-Spectrum online newsletter on the SVU website. At the conclusion of her one-year term, Bonnie will write an article for e-Spectrum describing her experiences serving on the SVU Board.
“The Society for Vascular Ultrasound has been the voice for the vascular ultrasound profession since 1977,” Bonnie said. “Having been selected to serve as the student representative allows me to have the opportunity to be with, learn from, and serve with the professionals who are considered ‘cream of the crop’ in their profession. I am honored to represent all vascular ultrasound students, but especially proud to represent the well-trained professional group of students and staff involved with the Tri-C Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.”
Established in 1977, the Society for Vascular Ultrasound is the only professional organization completely dedicated to the advancement of noninvasive vascular technology used in the diagnosis of vascular disease. The Society’s membership includes vascular technologists, sonographers, echocardiographers, vascular surgeons, physicians, nurses, vascular lab technical directors and other allied healthcare professionals.
