Tri-C’s David Mastny Shares Tips for Online Data Security
College’s manager of information security speaks with Fox 8 in wake of Marriott data breach
In the aftermath of the massive Marriott data breach, Cuyahoga Community College’s manager of information security offered a reminder that internet security starts with individual users.
In a Friday interview with Fox 8 Cleveland, David Mastny said it’s impossible for large corporations to neutralize every threat to their data systems. While corporations spend billions of dollars every year to protect their data, it’s still up to customers to take precautionary steps to limit their exposure to hackers.
Mastny suggests credit monitoring and unique passwords as methods of decreasing risk when sharing personal information in online transactions.
The Marriott data breach is one of the largest in history. It potentially compromised the personal information of approximately 500 million guests who stayed at hotels under Marriott’s Starwood family of brands, including St. Regis, Westin, Sheraton and W hotels.
