#MyTriCStory: Samantha Fisher
#MyTriCStory is a series highlighting everyday people in the Tri-C community. Today we meet Samantha Fisher, an assessment technician at the Western Campus in Parma.
#MyTriCStory: What’s your role at Tri-C?
Samantha Fisher: I’m an assessment technician at the Western Campus Testing Center. We give placement tests and makeup tests, provide accommodations for students who need additional assistance and even proctor exams for those who go to a different university.
#MTCS: What do you wish people knew about the testing center?
SF: The resources we offer for test preparation. There are websites that help prepare students for their exams, and there are also tutors to help.
#MTCS: What is your favorite part of your job?
SF: Honestly? My interactions with the students. I interact with so many different types of students. They are all different ages and ethnicities and come from so many different backgrounds.
#MTCS: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
SF: When a student tells me that I helped them pass a test. Also, a lot of students seem to be able to talk to me. I really enjoy being a listening ear, and I think listening to the students decreases their test anxiety. Some students come to the testing center really overwhelmed, and sometimes all it takes is for someone to ask them how they’re doing. I think the most important part is to make sure the student is
#MTCS: Finally, what are your tips to help decrease test anxiety?
SF: Water! Make sure you always have water. I try to have some stress balls on the counter to help. Mints are good, too. Just breathe. Don’t underestimate how much less stressed you can be if you’re prepared.
