General Studies 1032, "Information Literacy and Library Research"

What is "Information Literacy? " Information literacy is a set of abilities requiring individuals to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information."  (American Library Association, Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education).

This course provides hands-on instruction using the World Wide Web and electronic library resources to locate information for course related and personal needs. Emphasis is on search strategies, information retrieval and management, and source evaluation. Instruction includes the use of  a variety of print and electronic materials.
Lecture 02 hours . Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENG-1010 College Composition I.

Classroom Course
These sections are offered at all three campuses and are traditional classroom courses with an instructor present at all times. Hands on activities are completed in the library or in computer labs.

Web Course
Web courses use an Internet web site for course delivery and assignments and an Internet-based electronic mail and discussion forum for submission of papers and class discussion, all of which may be accessed with a web browser. Most assignments in this course will be completed using electronic tools, but students will be required to go to a Tri-C or OhioLINK enabled library to complete several assignments.
