The Eastern Campus Writing Center provides free writing consultation for students, faculty, staff, and the community at large. This includes writing for all courses, as well as professional, creative, and personal writing.
No appointments are necessary. However, to keep consultation time focused and productive, each session generally will be limited to a half hour.
What kind of help do the consultants offer?
The consultants in the Writing Center can help writers during any phase of the writing process, on any subject, from brainstorming to a final copy and anywhere in between. They assist in document preparation, citation style, research, and other technical aspects of the writing process. They also help with creative writing, personal writing, technical communication, and college entrance essays.
Will a consultant proofread an essay?
The Writing Center consultants do not proofread. They provide suggestions for improving the writing and for developing a more effective writing process. They are happy to diagnose and discuss grammatical, stylistic, and/or mechanical problems, offer suggestions for improving writing style, and so on. By contrast, second-party proofreading does little to further a writer’s understanding of grammar and mechanics. By diagnosing the problem, the consultants in the WC encourage writers to become stronger self-editors.
