Literacy Services

Literacy Services Department is dedicated to providing opportunities for individuals needing to improve their education and to enhance their future earning capabilities. These services can consist of improving ones reading, writing, and math skills to assisting adults who are deficient in basic skills; English for Speakers of Other Languages and GED attainment. Improvement in basic skills and earning a GED opens the door to transition to postsecondary education, fast track and degree programs.

Preparation and testing sessions are offered at various times and days to accommodate the needs of adults, working parents, dislocated workers, ex-offenders, non English speaking immigrants and physically/mentally challenged persons. To address the many learning styles of students, courses are taught by instructors, computer assisted software, or through distance learning capabilities.

After successfully obtaining GED credentials, Tri-C’s Seamless Transition and Retention Team (START II) can assist participants through the enrollment process by attending one of the workshops held for first year students. Participants can earn one credit towards completion of core requirements during this transition (See START II heading for additional information). Tri-C is a Certified Fee Waiver and Official GED Test site.
