The Global Issues Resource Center is involved in extensive and diverse projects sponsored by the Center and its many partners.

Upcoming Projects:

Free Training!    The Northeast Ohio Juvenile Detention Professional Development Project - Strengthen  training to reduce high turnover & low job satisfaction of juvenile detention employee; Deliver skill-based training to local juvenile corrections officers:

  1. Officers work in Juvenile Detention Facilities - primarily house youth who have committed a violent or sexually oriented crime, mentally ill, repeat offenders and history of substance abuse
  2. Topics include: conflict management & crisis intervention, adolescent development & psychological impact of incarceration, mental health & chemical dependency, trauma & suicide prevention, prison rape elimination act, child abuse, juvenile rights, officer safety and...
  3. Seven day - 56 hour pilot curriculum will be offered 3x during the 2008 calendar year
  4. Partners include:
  • Mahoning County Juvenile Detention Facility
  • Medina County Juvenile Detention Facility
  • The Lake County Detention Facility
  • Ohio Attorney General's Child & Elder Protection Section
  • Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission
  • Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management
  • The Department of Youth Services
  • Cuyahoga Community College- Public Safety Institute
