The Northeast Ohio Juvenile Detention Professional Development Project - Strengthen training to reduce high turnover & low job satisfaction of juvenile detention employee; Deliver skill-based training to local juvenile corrections officers:
- Officers work in Juvenile Detention Facilities - primarily house youth who have committed a violent or sexually oriented crime, mentally ill, repeat offenders and history of substance abuse
- Topics include: conflict management & crisis intervention, adolescent development & psychological impact of incarceration, mental health & chemical dependency, trauma & suicide prevention, prison rape elimination act, child abuse, juvenile rights, officer safety and...
- Seven day - 56 hour pilot curriculum will be offered 3x during the 2008 calendar year
- Partners include:
- Mahoning County Juvenile Detention Facility
- Medina County Juvenile Detention Facility
- The Lake County Detention Facility
- Ohio Attorney General's Child & Elder Protection Section
- Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission
