College Success Program

The College Success Program at Cuyahoga Community College is a partnership between Tri-C and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) designed as a pre-college program to prepare high-school students for a successful transition to college and to begin their studies in college on level, eliminating the need for remedial math and English courses.  This college preparatory approach will ease the high school transition to a successful college career.

The College Success program’s mission is to increase the number of CMSD students who successfully progress through high school, graduate, enroll in postsecondary education at college-level, and succeed in their college coursework.

The College Success Programs has three components:

College Success Outreach Centers where Tri-C staff are on site to provide:

  • College Awareness Workshops
  • Math & English Skills Testing and Upgrading
  • College & Career Planning
  • Curriculum Alignment to help line up high school curriculum with Tri-C’s COMPASS test (used to evaluate incoming students’ skill levels and place students in appropriate math and English courses)

College Success Summer Academy which is a six week Summer Academy for 11th and 12th grade students held at the Metropolitan Campus that provides:

  • Accelerated Instruction
  • Academic Support
  • College Success Component

First-Year Experience for Entering Freshmen where students who transition to Tri-C will be paired with a Transition Coach their freshman year to help:

  • Orient students to the college campus
  • Advise students on the availability of support services
  • Connect students with Enrollment Center and financial aid staff
  • Link students with financial literacy education services
  • Inform students of co-curricular activities that support learning and development beyond the classroom
