WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM EXCELLS AT NJCAA CROSS COUNTRY NATIONAL FINAL
The women's cross country team finished the season on a high note by placing 12th at the Division I NJCAA Cross Country National Final held at El Dorado, Kansas. The 12th place finish is the second highest finish ever achieved by the team since moving to Division I. Butler Community College hosted the event which included 37 teams and 316 runners from across the nation.
The Challenger women were paced by cross country All-American Caroline Lapish (Madison, Ohio). Caroline becomes the 4th individual to earn Cross Country All-America recognition at Cuyahoga Community College. Caroline finished the 3.1 mile distance in 18:41 to take 16th place overall. The 12th place team finish can also be attributed to the pack finish of the next five Challenger runners who all finished within 40 seconds of each other. Following Caroline Lapish to the finish and scoring was Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula, Ohio) finishing in 20:17, Sonnie Sauvinski (Rootstown, Ohio) 20:32, Jaylah Sirca (Macedonia, Ohio), 20:33, Maria Curren (Columbus, Ohio) 20:44 and Jordan Kati (Eastlake, Ohio) 20:59.

CUYAHOGA WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM ON TRACK AT NJCAA REGION XII CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP, LOOKING TOWARD TO NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY FINAL!
The women's cross country team, currently ranked 13th in the country, placed 3rd at the NJCAA Region XII Cross Country Championship hosted by Lansing Community College. The team finished behind 2nd ranked Lansing and 8th ranked Vincennes University. Once again pacing the Challenger women was Caroline Lapish (Madison, Ohio) who finished 7th, earning All-Region XII honors and finishing in a time of 19:21. Following Caroline was Sonnie Sauvinsky (Rootstown, Ohio) in 16th place with a time of 20:13, Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula, Ohio) in 21st at 20:46, Taylor Badamo (North Royalton, Ohio) in 24th place at 20:53 and Maria Curren, (Columbus, Ohio) finishing 25th in 20:54.
The team will conclude it's season on November 12th at the NJCAA Cross Country National Championship, hosted by Butler Community College, El Dorado, Kansas.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM PLACES IT ALL ON THE LINE AT WILMINGTON COLLEGE/JENNA STRONG INVITATIONAL
The women's cross country team turned in it's strongest performance to date placing 11th out of 38 teams at the Wilmington College/Jenna Strong Invitational. Leading the way with a personal best effort over the 5k course was Caroline Lapish (Madison) with a time of 19:17. Running in a tight pack behind Caroline was Taylor Badamo (North Royalton) with a personal best of 19:53, Sonnie Sauvinski (Rootstown) and Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula) sharing personal best times of 19:58. Running 5th for the Challengers was Jaylah Sirca of Nordonia in 20:21, with Maria Curren (Columbus) finishing with a personal best of 20:50, followed by Amber Ruiz-Bueno (Willowick) with a personal best of 20:52 and Jordan Kati (Eastlake) in 21:13.
The next competition for the lady Challengers will be the National Junior College Region XII Cross Country Championship to take place at Lansing Community College on Saturday, October 28th.

CUYAHOGA WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES IN MIDDLE OF THE PACK AT ALL-OHIO CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP
The women's cross country team finished in 33rd place at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championship which featured 50 Ohio collegiate teams. Finishing at the top were meet champion Miami U., followed by U of Dayton, Cedarville U., and Ohio State U. The Challenger finished first among two year colleges that braved the weather to compete at Cedarville U. Constant rain, thunder and lightning caused a meet delay which was followed by a soggy, drenched course that made footing challenging.
Pacing the Challenger women has she has done all year was Caroline Lapish (Madison) who covered the 6K course in 24:06. Caroline was followed by Sonnie Souvinsky (Rootstown) who ran a personal best of 25:10. Maria Curren (Columbus Marion Pleasant) continued steady improvement with a time of 25:43 as did Taylor Badamo (North Royalton) who also cracked the 26:00 minute barrier with a 25:52. Also scoring for Cuyahoga were Jordan Kati (Eastlake North) in 26:13 and Jaylah Sirca (Nordonia) in 26:64.
The team travels to Orlando next Saturday (8:20am) to compete at the Disney Cross Country Classic.

CROSS COUNTRY TEAM STORMS WAY TO 4TH PLACE FINISH AT PENN STATE-BEHREND CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
The women’s cross country team survived cool temperatures, high winds and a heavy rainstorm to place 4th out of 12 teams at the Penn State-Behrend Campus Cross Country Invitational. The team was paced by meet individual champion, Caroline Lapish (Madison), who finished in 19:57. Also finishing in the top 25 and earning medal status was Taylor Badamo (North Royalton) finishing 18th with a time of 21:56, Sonnie Souvinsky (Rootstown) in 21st place in 21:58 and Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula Edgewood) finishing 24th in 21:59. Rounding out the scoring for the Cuyahoga women were Maria Curren (Columbus, Marion Pleasant) in 22:21, Jaylah Sirca (Nordonia) finishing in 22:35, Jordan Kati (Eastlake North) running 23:06 and Amber ruiz-Bueno (Eastlake North) finishing in 23:24. Also contributing to the team effort was Kim Holiday (Dallas, Tx.) running 24:28, Tania French (Berea-Midpark) finishing in 24:31, Alyssa Fallon (Olmsted Falls) 25:03, Courtney Craig (Garfield Heights) 26:20.
The team travels next to Springfield, Ohio and Cedarville University for the All-Ohio Cross Country Championship to be held on Friday, September 30th. Race time is 2:00pm and features all 53 colleges in Ohio. This is the only time this fall that all Ohio colleges get together at one time to run in one race.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY TEAM CAPTURES RUNNER UP HONORS AT WITTENBERG CROSS COUNTRY INVITATIONAL
The Challenger women placed 2nd overall at the Wittenberg Cross Country Invitational held at Snyder Park, home of the Wittenberg Tigers. Wittenberg University tallied 21 points to win the meet, followed by Cuyahoga with 43 points and 3rd place Marietta College with 71 points. Three Cuyahoga women placed 3 in the top 10 finishers. Caroline Lapish (Madison) was the invitational runner up with a time of 19:44, followed by 8th place finisher Taylor Badamo (North Royalton) at 21:34 and finishing in 10th, Maria Curren (Columbus, Marion) at 21:44. Also scoring for Tri-C were Shelbie Sporcich (Ashtabula) in 11th place, Sonnie Sauvinski (Rootstown) in 12th, Jordan Kati 13th and Amber Ruiz-Bueno 17th, both of Eastlake.
The team will travel to Penn State-Behrend campus this Saturday for the 11:00am race start of the Penn State-Behrend cross country invitational.

CUYAHOGA CROSS COUNTRY OFF TO FAST START
The women’s cross country team started the 2016 season on a high note capturing the women’s title at the Daniel Walker Cross Country Invitational hosted by Buffalo State. The race was run along the Niagara River at Beaver Island State Park. The Challengers edged out the host school, Buffalo State, to take first place honors. Cuyahoga scored 25 points to Buffalo State’s runner up total of 36.
Pacing Cuyahoga was freshman and individual race winner Caroline Lapish (Madison, Oh.). Caroline’s winning time was 20:01 for the 5k distance. Following behind Caroline were freshman Taylor Badamo (21:26) of North Royalton, sophomore Maria Curren (21:35) of Marion, Freshman Shelbie Sporcich (22:35) of Ashtabula and Amber Ruiz-Bueno (22:57) of Willowick. Rounding out the scoring for the Challengers were Sonnie Sauvinski (22:58) Rootstown, Jordan Kati (23:09) Willowick, Alyssa Fallon (Olmsted Falls), Kim Holiday (Dallas, Tx.), Tania French (Barea) and Courtney Craig (Garfield Hts.). The Team travels to Wittenberg University next Saturday (10:30am), September 10th for the Wittenberg Invitational.
