Women's Cross Country Team Finishes 5th at Ohio Wesleyan
The women’s cross country team finished in 5th place at Ohio Wesleyan as they competed in their first 6k run. The 5k distance is standard for the women with the 6k providing an opportunity to test their endurance. And tested they were as the 6k distance took a back seat to the upper 80 degree temperatures and high humidity. Leading the pack was Hope Brown (Berea-Midpark) finishing the 6k distance in 25:52. Hope was followed by Hannah Heath (Black River) in 27:30. Next to the finish line was Vanessa Lane (Tallmadge) completing the race is 27:53 with Sierra Taylor (Conneaut) right behind Vanessa in 27:56. Rounding out the scoring for the women was Emily Zimmerman (Cuyahoga Falls).
The team has next week off before facing all colleges and Universities in the state in the All-Ohio Cross Country Championship, hosted by University of Akron at Silver Creek Park on Friday, September , 28th. The women’s team race is scheduled to go off at 2:00pm.
Cross Country Team Shows Steady Improvement at University of Akron
The women’s cross country team gained both experience and a significant drop in time as they competed at the University of Akron’s Tommy Evans Cross Country Invitational. Rainy conditions and a wet course did not seem to slow the team as they dropped their average team time significantly over their opening meet at Buffalo State. Once again, leading the way was Hope Brown of Berea-Midpark with a time of 21:29. Emily Zimmerman (Cuyahoga Falls) showed steady improvement as she clocked in at 21:50 followed by Hannah Heath of Black River in 22:03. Cassidy Phillips (Akron Springfield) ran fourth for the team finishing in 22:09. Vanessa Lane (Tallmadge) fished in 5th position for the Challenger women followed by Sierra Taylor (Conneaut) and Eden-Amador Gorby (Akron Springfield).
The team travels to Ohio Wesleyan next week to participate in the Battling Bishops cross country invitational on Saturday, September 15th. Race time is scheduled for 10:30am.
Cross Country Women Open Season with 2nd Place Finish at Buffalo State
Different runners, same results for the women’s cross country team at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®).
A Challengers squad featuring seven freshman runners placed second at the season-opening Buffalo State Daniel Walker Invitational. The meet took place Sept. 1 at Beaver Island State Park in New York.
Women's team drop times at All-Ohio Cross Country Invitational
The Cuyahoga women’s cross country team competed against all collegiate teams in Ohio at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championship. The team was paced by Hope Brown (Middleburg Heights) who ran the challenging 6K course in 25:28, a personal best time. Hope was followed by Emily Zimmerman (Cuyahoga Falls) who continues to drop time each week. Finishing third for Cuyahoga was Sierra Taylor (Conneaut) in 27:07, followed closely by Hannah Heath (Black River) in 27:14. Rounding out the scoring was Cassidy Phillips (Akron Springfield) in 27:49. The All-Ohio meet served as a great tune up for the team as they travel to compete at the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando.
Women's Cross Country Team Runs Hot At Disney Cross Country Classic
The Cuyahoga women ran several personal bests despite the high humidity as they competed at the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando, Florida. The team finished 15th in a predominately division I field. Running an all time personal best and leading the team was Hope Brown (Middleburg Heights) who finished the 5K course in 20:19. Hope was followed by Hannah Heath (Black River) in 21:44 and Emily Zimmerman in 21:50. Sierra Taylor (Conneaut) posted her best time of the year clocking in at 22:09. Finishing fifth for the women was Cassidy Phillips (Akron Springfield). Rounding out the scoring was Vanessa Lane (Tallmadge) in 22:31, followed closely by high school teammate Madison Tasich in 22:55.
The team travels to Wilmington College on Friday, October 12th to participate in the Wilmington College, Jenna Strong Cross Country Invitational.
Women's Cross Country Team Completes Invitational Competition at Wilmington College
The Cuyahoga women’s cross country team completed their invitational schedule by competing at the Wilmington College, Jenna Strong invitational. This was the first competition of the year with temperatures not reaching the 80 degree mark. The cool temperatures (upper 40’s) provided a welcome relief from past very humid conditions and the team responded with a steady performance on a hilly course as the top five Cuyahoga finishers finished within one minuet of each other. Leading the way was Emily Zimmerman (Cuyahoga Falls) in 21:05. Emily was followed closely by Hope Brown (Middleburg Heights) in 21:30, Sierra Taylor (Conneaut) 21:57, Cassidy Phillips (Akron Springfield) 21:59 and Hannah Heath (Black River) 22:07.
The team’s next competition will be the NJCAA Region XII Championship on October 27th at Lansing Community College.
