Men's basketball claims top spot in latest NJCAA national rankings
December 13, 2017
Clemson. Villanova. UConn. Cuyahoga Community College.
What do these schools have in common? They all have a No. 1 nationally-ranked team on campus.
The first three schools need no introduction to the rest of the country, holding the top spots in college football, NCAA Division I men's basketball and NCAA Division I women's basketball, respectively.
But make way, because the Tri-C Challengers men's basketball team is joining them.
In the latest NJCAA Division II men's basketball poll, released Tuesday, the Challengers took the top spot, rising from fifth in the Dec. 5 poll.
Tri-C (13-0) is led by sophomores Devon Robinson (11.1 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game), Quintin Dove (16.5 PPG), Wade Lowman (13.3 PPG) and Larenz Thurman (13.3 PPG). Josawah Bradford (9.4 PPG) and James Anderson (8.8 PPG) are among the top freshman contributors for head coach Michael Duncan's squad.
The Challengers are next at home Jan. 13 against Hocking College at 2 p.m. Home games are played at the Tri-C Metropolitan Campus Recreation Center, located at the corner of E. 30th St. and Community College Avenue. Admission is free.
