Miami University research on older students will include Tri-C

Cuyahoga Community College is among three Ohio community colleges that will serve as case studies for an upcoming research project to be conducted by the Scripps Gerontology Center at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
The project, funded by a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, will research the impact of higher education on older adults in the job market. Specifically, the research will focus on those age 40 and over, the challenges they face in keeping their skills up to date with rapid changes in technology, and whether institutions of higher education are providing the continuing-education resources necessary to answer the demand.
It is estimated that half of the U.S. labor force is 40 or older, meaning that any training deficiencies within that demographic threaten to have wide-ranging impacts on the nation’s business and industrial sectors.
In addition to Tri-C, Clark State Community College and Rio Grande Community College will also participate in the study, the data from which will ultimately be published in research journals, and presented at aging and education conferences.
