Financial Assistance
How do I find out if I am eligible for financial assistance?
Complete the federal financial aid application (the Free Application for Federal Student Aid -- also known as the FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Paper applications and information can be obtained from your campus Financial Aid Office.
How much time is needed to process my financial aid application?
Allow 6 to 8 weeks processing time, before the beginning of the term you are planning to register.
What materials do I need to submit along with my financial aid application?
An official copy of your high school or GED transcript verifying graduation must be sent directly to Tri-C. This policy is necessary to meet federal requirements. If you do not have a high school or GED transcript, you can take an Ability-to-Benefit equivalency test in the Assessment Center at the Metropolitan Campus, or the Learning Centers at the Eastern and Western campuses. Test result forms may be obtained from your campus Financial Assistance office.
You also need your Income Tax forms and Selective service number. Forms may be submitted to the Financial Assistance Office to verify the information is correct.
When completing the FAFSA, what aid programs will I be considered for? You will be considered for the following aid programs:
Moreover, as a Tri-C student, you may apply for applicable scholarships.
Is there a deadline for filing my FAFSA?
Our priority deadline date for Summer Term applicants is March 1, while the deadline for Fall Term applicants is June 1. For Spring Term applicants, the priority deadline is October 1. Remember, you can apply for financial aid as early as January 1 each year.
What is your Title IV School Code?
Our Federal school code for the FAFSA is 003040.
When should I turn in my Forms?
6-8 weeks before the start of the term you wish to attend should be the latest to have your forms turned in. The earlier the filing the less problems you would have for the coming term.
Returning students should not assume that they have aid in place for the next Academic year or Summer term. If you are unsure of your financial aid status, setup an appointment with your advisor.
Can I borrow money through a student loan?
Yes. To be considered for a student loan, you must complete a Loan Application available online or in the financial aid office, maintain a 2.0+ GPA and be enrolled a minimum of 6 credit hours each term.
Can I use my financial aid to purchase my books?
Yes. If your Federal Pell Grant and/or Direct Loan will cover your total tuition balance with money left over and the disbursement will be delayed, contact the Financial Assistance Office to determine eligibility.
When will the first set of financial aid checks be distributed?
Fall 2007 checks will be mailed beginning September 14, 2007 and Spring 2008 checks will be mailed beginning February 1, 2008. For more information, see also Tri-C's Policies and/or Important Dates.
Can I use all of my financial aid in one semester?
No. All financial aid awards must be evenly divided between semesters.
What happens if I lose my job?
You may be eligible to file a Special Circumstance appeal. Contact the Financial Assistance Office for additional information.
Where can I get more information?
Contact your campus Financial Assistance Office. You may also send an email Financial Assistance at
finaid@tri-c.edu. Please remember to include your student identification number with any correspondence.

Parking / Public Safety
Parking Rules
Rules and regulations have been adopted by the Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees to regulate traffic and parking on College property. Adherence to these rules will facilitate the use of parking areas and the roads around the College. A copy of these rules is available upon request at the campus libraries.
Motorcycles, motorbikes and motor scooters are subject to the same regulations as automobiles. Roller skaters are required to yield to both pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and to travel in the direction of the traffic flow. The use of Walkmans or other personal audio devices is prohibited while skating. Skateboarding is not permitted on any campus.
In consideration of all motorists, the following standards have been established: be courteous, be considerate, use common sense, register your car with Public Safety, have two quarters (50 cents) for exit.
Are there Emergency Call Boxes on campus?
Yes! Call boxes are located at all parking gates and Blue Beacon Phones.
How can I compare crime statistics of Cuyahoga Community College with other colleges and universities?
There are several easy ways. Each school is required to make available annual crime statistics. A direct request to a school will enable you to get the statistics. A second way would be to go to a library and request the Uniform Crime Reports published by the U.S. Department of Justice. This is an excellent document for use in comparing crime statistics. Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (20USC1092f)
If I am under 21 and get caught for Underage Possession of Alcohol, what will happen to me?
If you are under the legal age for consumption of alcohol in the State of Ohio, you will probably be arrested for Underage Possession of Alcohol. Possession includes alcohol that you have already consumed and alcohol in any type of container, whether open or not. If you are arrested, you will face criminal prosecution which may include fines and/or other punishments through the local courts, and you will be referred to the Dean of Students for possible College sanctions.
Will my vehicle be safe on campus?
Generally vehicles are safe. Thieves target vehicles for different reasons. The vehicle itself is targeted because there is a demand for that vehicle or property inside. The vehicle attracts the thief. Expensive stereo equipment and loose, personal property easily seen by the thief can make the vehicle more attractive. Parking the vehicle in well lighted and traveled area may reduce the vulnerability of a particular vehicle being a target. There have been very few instances where vehicles with alarms were entered or stolen.
Is it safe to lock my bicycle outside while on campus?
The answer to this question depends on what lengths you are willing to go in order to secure your bicycle. Too often students place cheap cable locks on very expensive bicycles. Bicycle thieves are looking for easy targets. Cheap locks or improperly secured locks are an open invitation to thieves. If you are going to bring an expensive bike to campus, spend a few extra dollars on a quality locking devise and learn how to properly secure your bike with it. The few extra seconds you spend securing your bike properly will go a long way towards discouraging thieves.

Records / Transcripts
Has my transcript been received? Has it been evaluated?
A Records Clerk will be able to provide this information to a student that contacts the department.
How soon will my transcript be evaluated?
Normally, transcripts are evaluated within 2 to 4 weeks of the date received. If you have not received notification of evaluation results after that time, (or if receipt date is more than four weeks past) contact a records clerk.
International Students must have transcript evaluated through Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE), Inc., of Milwaukee.
What courses were accepted?
Evaluation results will be sent to your address of record. That information cannot be disclosed over the telephone; you can review the evaluation results, with your counselor.
How do I request a transcript?
You can receive a transcript by either of the following means:
Students can obtain their transcript from any campus regardless of where attended.
Normal processing time during the term is 3-5 working days, up to 15 at the end of the term.
How do I get an emergency transcript?
Emergency processing may be available. Prior approval from Admissions and Records is required. Please contact Admissions and Records for additional information. Please be advised, there is an additional fee for emergency transcripts.
How much does a transcript cost?
Has my transcript been sent?
Contact Admissions and Records to verify information. Ask at what campus did you submit your request form? To what address did you request transcript to be sent?
I need to withdraw from my classes. What should I do?
-
Current term: See withdrawal deadlines in the current course schedule; need to know which part-of-term for which student is enrolled.
-
Past term: You will need to complete a petition for late withdrawal, available from the A&R office. Effective Fall 2007 one-term limit.
How long does the withdrawal process take? When does the late withdrawal committee meet?
The committee meets once each month; if the committee recommends late withdrawal, your instructors will be contacted for final approval of the withdrawal action.
How can I get a refund for the course I dropped?
You will need to complete a petition for late withdrawal/refund exception that is available from the A&R Department.
When will I get my diploma?
Diplomas for fall and spring graduates are mailed in August; for summer graduates in September. Contact the Admissions and Records (campus of records) department if specified time has passed and you have not received your diploma.
My grade is wrong on my grade report. Who should I call?
If the grade you received is not the grade you expected, you will need to contact your instructor.
